GATES OF HEAVEN or GATES OF HELL?

Everyone seems to have questions about whether or not the $100,000,000 grant from Billy and Mel is a good thing.

I'd like to know where the district is getting their $100,000,000 match from.

That's $200,000,000 total!

That's $14,285,714.29 per year for the 7 year period.

Hey Jean Clements: Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the "ballpark" amount it costs to give us all a 1% raise?

Parents with kids in 4th grade will see the money run out as they enter their senior year.

Was any teacher interviewed and not published? If you were interviewed, how were you chosen, how were you notified?

Follow the Dollar:

From the Gate s Foundation Website:
"To support Hillsborough County (FL) Public Schools to participate in the Measures of Effective Teaching project, designed to develop reliable indicators of a teacher’s impact on student achievement in order to improve college-readiness rates for low-income and minority youth."

From the United Federation of Teachers:
"The UFT and the Department of Education are looking for volunteers to participate in a research study to help develop fair, accurate, and useful guides to what really makes effective teaching and learning. This two-year study, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is premised on the principle that good teaching is multi-dimensional, and that teachers and their schools need consistent and reliable information in order to identify and support good teaching."

It occurred to me that the best way we can describe our board is:

PROMI$CUOU$!

Dr David Steele must not be getting enough takers and the silly Gates plan to make teachers take the fall for students poor performance.

He is now offering a $50.00 bonus for teaches willing to get trained to "mentor" their colleagues on how to properly teach their students.

No takers eh David? Wow, people are really not crashing the doors to get the 50 bucks?

Jeeeez...what a insult.

They will get their mentors though. Bet they will be a cracker jack lot.

Cant wait to get their help.

Vote no?

On what?

There was no vote on the Gates thing. Its a done deal.

I would hope that teachers would refuse to be a part of the mentor "training" but since David Steele is now offering the grand sum of 50 bucks, the applications will come rolling in.

Imagine that!

For 50 bucks extra in your pocket you can get trained to "mentor" your fellow teachers in the Gates method of teacher effectiveness. I figure a weekend course will do it.

If you don't pass muster, you will get shown the door.

What a joke.

It still has to go through collective bargaining. Parts of this will be showing up in the next contract. Vote it down!

What has happened to Goader? Has he knuckled under to administrative pressure. His last post was a glowing praise of his school and it's working conditions.

Was he ordered to publish this and his congrats to the system for the Gates money and then told to be quiet?

Has Goader been silenced?

I hope not.......

News flash!!

Dr Steele has extended the deadline for those willing to join up for the 50 buck bonus.

Guess teachers are not responding to this generous offer.

I told my teacher friend to submit a counter offer of 200. Let's bid this baby up !

How many millions will Microsoft make as a result of this grant? We will end up buying more of their stuff. Wonder if the grant will allow us to switch to Mac computers?
Follow the money trail.

It is time to give CTA a wake up kick. They are not representing us. Instead it seems JC is star struck with trips to DC to meet Obama and other such foolishness.
That money has so many strings attached and we will soon see a legion of new paper pushers and chart checkers roaming in and out of our classrooms.

Suzie,

Mrs. Elia and the Administration are in the process of imposing the 6/7 instructional schedule on middle school teachers for next year.

Middle school building representatives for CTA will be invited to attend a meeting with Elia and the Administration for a pow-wow about the planned change. I emailed CTA and asked why the high school building representatives were not going to be invited. Since they have first hand experience with the pros and cons of the 6/7 plan, it seems appropriate that they should attend and provide their input. I am waiting for a response to my email.

In the meantime, do you think it is time to crank up The Wall during this monumental change about to be imposed on our colleagues in middle school?
